The Lady Wakefield & Shelagh of Eskdale double-head a goods train of bagged sand in connection with water-main work at Dalegarth Bogie Flat 2 (BF2) fully loaded with bagged sand in Dalegarth siding The Shelagh of Eskdale in Dalegarth siding Wagon J at Dalegarth As only the Shelagh is required to shunt the train at Dalegarth the Lady Wakefield is stabled outside the cottages. A summer evening silouette at Beckfoot Station Beckfoot Station A group of volunteers pose alongside the River Mite at Dalegarth. The track-gang start work in the shadow of the new signal near Raven Villa The first panel is dismantled The tractor clears the old ballast away The new sleepers and rail are laid in position and fastened down Sig 29R has two aspects, green, top, and yellow, bottom. Here the signal shows yellow and indicates that either 29 or 28 or both are at danger. The rails are prepared for re-joining The view from the newly relaid track up to the distant signal. The gradient at this point is 1 in 48 up towards Ravenglass. It thankfully cannot be seen from the passing trains. This signal will be a repeater for the inward bound signal, 29, at Ravenvilla and will display a green, 29 clear, or a yellow 29 at danger. In addition to new sig 29R, a small green electical box located on the rail will send an audible alarm to the signal box as a train passes. The first track panel is dismantled No more trains over this bit then! The bridge over the Leat at Muncaster Mill is the location of one of the sites Looking up into Mill Wood This is why trains struggle up this part of the line - not me obviously! - I'm to busy taking photos. I am ahead of you here! No not double-tracking1 These track-panels will be reused on sidings. Looking up towards the Boat at Miteside on the second site Have a guess where the track used to be.
